Gutter Cleaning
for Seattle & Eastside Homes

The needle load in this region does not behave like leaf fall elsewhere. It packs down, it holds water, and it feeds the moss on the roof above.

A Blocked Gutter Does Not Just Overflow

A gutter is a water management system, and when it stops working the water does not stop arriving. It goes somewhere else.

The usual failure is overflow at the back edge of the trough, which puts water against the fascia and into the soffit rather than down the downspout. Repeated through a Pacific Northwest wet season, that is how rot starts in trim that was otherwise fine. The other half of the problem is at ground level, where overflow dumps concentrated water at the foundation line instead of carrying it away from the building.

There is a less obvious cost too. The debris sitting in the trough is the same organic material sitting in the roof valleys above it, and that layer is what feeds roof moss. Clearing the roof without clearing the gutters leaves the colony a supply line.

This is nearly always booked with something else, because the ladder or lift is the expensive half of both jobs. Most often that is a roof treatment, since the debris in the trough is the same material feeding the moss above it, or a house wash that takes the streaking off the gutter faces at the same time.

How We Do It

Clearing, flushing, then checking that water actually goes where it should. The last step is the one that gets skipped.

Clear the Troughs

Needles, leaf litter, grit and the compacted mat underneath all come out of the trough by hand rather than being flushed down into the downspouts, which is how blockages get relocated instead of removed.

Flush the Downspouts

Each downspout is flushed and checked for flow. A clear trough feeding a blocked downspout is still a blocked system, and it is the half people most often miss.

Check the Roof Edge and Valleys

While we have the access set up we look at what is sitting in the valleys and along the roof edge, because that is where the next gutter blockage is currently waiting.

Rinse Down and Report Back

Debris is cleared from the ground, surfaces rinsed, and you get told plainly what we saw up there. If a hanger is pulling away or a section is holding water, you want to know now.

What the Visit Covers

Gutter work is usually bundled with roof or exterior cleaning, so here is what sits where.

Trough Clearing

Needles, leaves and the compacted layer beneath removed by hand from the full run of gutter.

Downspout Flushing

Every downspout flushed and flow-checked, so a clear trough is not feeding a blocked pipe.

Exterior Gutter Faces

The dark streaking on the front edge of the gutter, cleaned as part of a house wash.

Soffits, Fascia & Eaves

The trim the overflow would otherwise be running into, cleaned of cobwebs, dirt and growth.

Roof Valleys & Edges

Debris cleared from the valleys above, which is where the next blockage is currently accumulating.

A Straight Report

What we saw up there, including anything you should get a roofer or gutter installer to look at.

Why Bundle It With the Roof

One Access Setup

Ladders or a lift are the costly part of both jobs. Doing them together means paying for that once.

It Stops the Reseeding

Roof debris and gutter debris are the same material. Clearing both at once is what makes a roof treatment last.

Licensed & Fully Insured

Height work with full liability coverage, and a certificate on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do gutters need clearing in the Seattle area?

Most properties here need it at least once a year, and anything under fir or cedar usually needs it twice. The needle load in this region is the deciding factor rather than the leaf drop: needles are small enough to pass the gutter guard on many systems, and they pack down into a dense mat that holds water instead of letting it through. Properties with little overhanging tree cover can often go longer.

Why do you clear gutters as part of a roof treatment?

Because they are the same problem wearing two hats. The needle and leaf layer that collects in a gutter is the same material collecting in the roof valleys and feeding the moss colonies up there. Clearing one and not the other means the roof reseeds itself from what you left behind. It is also simply cheaper together, because the access setup is the expensive part of both jobs and it only has to happen once.

What actually goes wrong if they are left?

Water stops going where it was designed to go. A blocked gutter overflows at the back edge, which puts water against the fascia and soffit rather than into the downspout, and repeated through a wet season that is how rot starts in the trim. Overflow also dumps concentrated water at the foundation line instead of moving it away from the building. Full gutters are heavy, too, and the weight works on the hangers over time.

Do you clean the outside of the gutters as well?

The exterior faces and downspouts are cleaned as part of a house wash, which removes the dark streaking that collects on the front edge. Clearing the inside of the trough is the gutter clearing work described here. Most people want both, and they are straightforward to do on the same visit.

Do you work on gutter guards?

We clear what is reachable and tell you plainly what we find. Guard systems vary enormously, and some are designed to be lifted for access while others are fixed and would have to be removed and refitted, which is a different trade. If yours is the second kind we will say so rather than forcing it.

Gutter Cleaning Across Seattle & the Eastside

Gutter load in this region is driven by conifers more than by deciduous leaf fall, and that varies sharply by lot. Heavily treed properties in Woodinville, Issaquah, Sammamish and Snohomish sit under the heaviest needle drop and generally need clearing twice a year rather than once. More open ground in Renton, Everett, Lynnwood and Newcastle often manages on an annual visit. Older Seattle and Bothell homes frequently have narrower original guttering that blocks on less material than a modern system would.
